What's the difference between Medicaid and Medicare?

Medicaid is a health insurance program run by states. It provides coverage for people with low incomes. Medicare is a federal program. It provides coverage for people over age 65, and people under age 65 who qualify due to a disability.

You can have Medicaid and Medicare at the same time.

If you have both Medicaid and Medicare, there's a special type of health plan you should know about, called a "dual special needs plan," or "dual plan" for short. Dual plans combine Medicaid and Medicare into one plan. They cover doctor visits, hospital stays and prescription drugs. Plus, they offer programs and extra benefits to help you save money and live a healthier life.
